mlinfoWelcome to another round of Mystery Lyrics 2.0 with your host Dave

Seems there are a lot of questions on your mind about this way of playing Mystery Lyrics, and I would sure like to answer them for you. So as not to make this post too long, I have posted them on a separate page. Click here to be taken to the FAQs. If it doesn’t interest you however, let’s just get on with the show!

SunbeamBut before we start, congratulations to Cheryl (Aquara1997) who won the signed CD from last months featured artist Luthea Salom. Hope you enjoy it Cheryl!

Our thoughts today are also with Kat (who is not very well in hospital) and Sev (who is of course very worried). (((((Kat))))) get well soon, and (((((Sev))))) hold on in there my friend!

And, of course, we have a birthday in the house! Many Happy Returns go out to the Queen of Country Music herself, our very own Debi!

myspace-icons-celebrations11Hello ML family & Happy Birthday to my fellow Octoberites!!!

I think y’all know pretty much everything about me already, as I’ve had the most unique opportunity to meet a number of you in person. As you read this, I’ll have just celebratedmy 2nd wedding anniversary 4 days ago with my wonderful husband, Martin. We recently returned from an awesome vacation where we spent a couple of days in Phoenix, where the hubby surprised me with a “happy anniversary” message on the big jumbo screen at Chase Field where the Diamondbacks play. Then we spent the next 6 days in Las Vegas at the beautiful Palazzo the first 5 nights, then the last night he surprised me with the penthouse suite (1200 sq ft) at New York New York. We saw a show every night, which were all a surprise to me & also went to a NASCAR truck race. What more could a girl ask for!

I’ve lost count as to how many years I’ve been with Mystery Lyrics but I do know I’ve been co-hosting for a very long time. As one of our family members calls me, I AM the “Queen of Country Music”, which I know if you’ve seen my Country Fried Fridays, it’s my first love. I’m also a big fan of the 50′s, 60′s & very early 70′s and a HUGE Elvis, BeeGees, Elton John and especially Beatles fan.

Not much else going on in my little world here in southern CA, with the exception that now I need to save for a big 2 wk vacation next summer, where I plan on taking my beloved goddaughter, Chelsea, to Italy & Greece as a high school graduation gift. She doesn’t know about it and I plan on purchasing a pair of earplugs before I tell her about it, because I know how much she’s always wanted to go there and this girl can really let out a scream!

Hope this finds you all well and getting along ok with everything this world can sometimes throw at us. I’d like to thank PapaSev for creating such a unique and entertaining group and I am so grateful for all the treasured and valued friendships I’ve met along the way here at ML.

Love ya ~ Debi

This month we move from “Gimme a CD” from last month over to just a gimme … nowt to be won this time around, although I’m sure todays artist would have enough money to sponsor something :)

THE CLUE

mana-questionmark-icon-icon-thumb1785250While you Americans were singing “Born in The USA”, we in the UK had to make do with “Made in England”. The fact that our artist isn’t quite as masculine as his american pendant makes the song lose a lot of its potency somehow.

Todays song was the start of an awesome career for todays artist. Released in 1972 at the height of the space travel boom, it has been accused of being a rip-off of Bowie’s “Space Oddity”. It is though actually based loosely on a short story which is part of Ray Bradbury’s “The Illustrated Man”.

When I was a lad, it was just a very good song, that was it… but when I today read about the meanings to the lyric – most of them implied and very speculative – then it seems I must have been missing something somewhere.

This song reached #2 in the UK charts, #6 on the Billboard charts, and was ranked #242 in the 2004 List of Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

Your Lyric is:

  • I’m not the man they think I am at home

Although this artist has been featured a massive 17 times on Mystery Lyrics, he doesn’t even come near to the top 10 of the most featured artists. Who do you think has been featured most? Have a look at the poll on the sidebar on the startpage (Home) and vote for one of the artists

honkychateauRocket Man – Elton John
(Elton John/Bernie Taupin)

She packed my bags last night
Pre-flight,
Zero hour, nine a.m.
And I’m gonna be high as a kite by then.

I miss the earth so much,
I miss my wife.
It’s lonely out in space
On such a timeless flight.

And I think it’s gonna be a long, long time
Till touch down brings me round again to find
I’m not the man they think I am at home.
Oh, no, no, no,
I’m a rocket man,
Rocket man burning out his fuse up here alone.

Mars ain’t the kind of place to raise your kids,
In fact it’s cold as hell
And there’s no one there to raise them if you did.

And all this science,
I don’t understand.
It’s just my job, five days a week,
A Rocket man.
